Surveillance can identify emerging and re-emerging diseases in shrimp aquaculture. Prevention of diseases in aquaculture is required, as cures are hard to achieve and intervention after the onset of a disease is often difficult and costly. The main viral diseases reported in Sri Lanka were white spot syndrome virus (WSSV), monodonbaculovirus (MBV), and yellow head disease (YHD) in Penaeusmonodon cultures (Munasinghe et al., 2010). Recently, some studies reported the occurrence of IHHNV and WSSV infections in P. vannamei cultures in Sri Lanka (Jayasekera and Heenatigala, 2021). Similarly, in 2022, the first report of Enterocytozoonhepatopenaei (EHP) infection in P. vannamei shrimp culture was recorded. Therefore, close monitoring of P. vannamei farming in Sri Lanka is an urgent requirement for disease prevention and management in the culture system
